NPC trio set new marks

Nepal Police Club lifters Tara Devi Pun, Bikash Thapa and Junmaya Chhantyal broke national records in weightlifting.

The 12th South Asian Games gold medal winner, Thapa lifted 112kg in snatch and record 139kg in clean and jerk for a total lift of 251kg in the men's 81kg weight category. Raj Guru Yadav of Madhesh Province won silver with 183kg and Naresh Kumar Chaudhary of Sudurpashchim bagged bronze with 174.

Pun, who has remained unbeaten for more than two decades, set records in all three sections. Competing in 81kg weight category, Pun lifted 78kg in snatch and 102kg in clean and jerk for a total lift of 172kg.

APF's Anjali Shrestha was a distant second with 121kg, while Sudurpashchim's Champha Kumari Thakullawas third with a lift of 100kg. Likewise, another NOC lifter, Jun Maya Chhantyal set new marks in women's 71kg weight category. Chhantyal lifted 78kg in snatch and 89kg in clean and jerk for 167kg total. She bettered her own marks of 68kg in snatch and 88kg in clean and jerk.

Bikash Bhatta of Sudrpashchim set new records in the men's 89kg weight category. He lifted a record 124kg in snatch and 147kg in clean and jerk for 271kg total on his way to winning the gold medal.

NPC's Puja Kumal won women's 76kg section gold with a total lift of 171kg, while APF's Sarita Lama bagged gold with 117kg total lift. Also, TAC lifter Sharada Chaudhary won 64kg section gold with 147kg total lift.
