Panel formed to probe deaths following vote-related dispute

BAJURA, NOVEMBER 25

The government has formed a high-level probe team to investigate the death of two persons in Bajura's Tribeni Municipality-7. The five-member committee is headed by government official Prem Prasad Bhattarai.

The committee has got 15 days to investigate the deaths and submit its report.

Two persons had died over a vote-related dispute at Nateshwori Preliminary School in Tribeni on November 20.

One person had died in police firing when police, in response of Nepali Congress's cadres attempt to seize the booth, had fired shots. Local NC leader Sanjib Ayadi of Tribeni-7 had died in police firing. Later in the evening, All Nepal National Free Student Union central member Chetan Ayadi of Tribeni-7 had died from the beating of Nepali Congress cadres.

Three persons, including a police head constable, were also injured in the clash at the voting centre.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the incident, security has been beefed up at the incident site. National Human Rights Commission has started investigation into the incident. Commission's Spokesperson Tikaram Pokharel today issued a press release and informed about the formation of the investigation committee. A team of the commission is also said to be headed to Bajura for investigation.

While the final rites of NC cadre Ayadi, who died in the police firing, were performed today, the body of the UML cadre, who died of thrashing, is still in the district hospital. Kin of the deceased have declined to receive the body demanding the arrest of the assaulters.
