KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 30

The federal Parliament has got nine members from media background, eight from political parties, and one independent.

The party leaders include senior Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel, general-secretaries - Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Gagan Thapa, central committee member Ramesh Lekhak, independent candidate Amaresh Kumar Singh, CPN-UML leaders Gokul Banskota and Surya Thapa, Coordinator of Rastriya Swatantra Party Rabi Lamichhane and its leader Sobita Gautam.

Paudel was elected from Tanahun Constituency-2 receiving 25,361 votes. Senior leader Paudel was in the editorial team of Tarun newspaper.

Similarly, NC's Sharma won the election to member of HoR from Jhapa Constituency-1 obtaining 39,624 votes. He was the presenter of Aina programme broadcast on Kantipur TV. Another NC General-Secretary Thapa has been elected HoR member from Kathmandu Constituency-4 garnering 21,302 votes. Thapa was a programme presenter and news reader at Image FM.

Likewise, NC leader Lekhak won the election as member of HoR from Kanchanpur Constituency-3 garnering 30,575 votes.

He had worked as an executive editor of Mahakali weekly in 1991.

Similarly, independent candidate Amaresh Kumar Singh has been elected from Sarlahi Constituency-4.

CPN UML's leader Gokul Baskota, who was an editor of Sambodhan weekly, got elected to the HoR from Kavrepalanchowk Constituency-2 by defeating the alliance candidate Shiva Prasad Humagain.

Another leader of UML Surya Thapa, who was an editor of Budhabar weekly, has been elected from Pyuthan defeating the alliance candidate Durga Poudel.

The list further includes coordinator of the Rastriya Swatantra Party Rabi Lamichhane, a television presenter at News 24 earlier.

He was elected from Chitwan Constituency-2 with a wide margin.

He collected 49,300 votes which is more than threefold the votes his rival Umesh Shrestha of Nepali Congress garnered.

Another candidate from media background elected to the HoR is Sobita Gautam, leader of Rastriya Swatantra Party. She was elected from Constituency No 2 of Kathmandu.
