KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 4
Sunita Dangol, deputy mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has ordered stakeholders to repair and renovate all the overhead bridges in the metropolis.
Overhead bridges in the valley have been constructed under Private-Public-Partnership model, and it is the responsibility of the company that constructed those bridges to repair them when required.
The bridges inside the valley are worn out for want of timely repair and renovation.
The railings are falling apart and the steps on the ladders have become too slippery and small due to constant friction. Similarly, the railings are too high and signboards on them pose risk to pedestrians while using them in the dark,' Dangol told stakeholders. She further mentioned that the renovation should include accessibility to people with disabilities.
Dangol also directed stakeholders to reduce the height of railings on the top of such bridges and make them transparent for security reasons. Renovate them to make them aesthetically beautiful. Head of PPP programme Nurnidhi Neupane, while answering the queries of the deputy mayor, illustrated how the city had benefited from constructions such as Kathmandu tower, public toilets and other structures in the metropolis.
