BAJURA, DECEMBER 10

A new mother and her infant are struggling for life due to lack of treatment in Bajura.

Karishma Pariyar aged 20 and her 45-day-old son of Ward No 6 of Himali Rural Municipality, Bajura, are malnourished.

Her husband Surendra Pariyar lamented that the mother and son could not be treated for want of money. Surendra and his wife had gone to India due for work one-and-a-half years ago. She had suffered excessive bleeding following her son's birth. She suffers from blood deficit and mental issues. 'I have not been able to treat my wife and son for lack of money,' said Surendra.

The son has become malnourished after the mother could not breastfeed him due to physical weakness. After both son and daughter were taken ill, Surendra stopped going to India. 'I cannot even buy a bottle of water, let alone treat my wife and son,' Surendra bemoaned.

Local businessman Narmada Singh had rescued Karishma and her son and helped them reach District Hospital, Bajura.

The hospital admitted both mother and son and started treating them. According to Dr Dipendra Budha, the mother is not capable of taking care of herself, while the son is malnourished.
