Free Student Union elections on March 19

Tribhuvan University has decided to hold elections of the Free Student Union on March 19.

Earlier, the election was slated for March 12. However, it was postponed by a week after consultation with various student unions. A meeting of the TU Student Welfare Council and Sports Directorate today recommended to the TU Executive Council to conduct the election on the given date.

Bearing in mind the opinions of student unions and exams and student enrolment schedules, the date was proposed. It is expected to be endorsed by the Council very soon, according to the Directorate's Executive Director Prof Pashupati Adhikari.

The FSU election in the TU and its constituent and affiliated campuses has long been suspended. He said, the TU Executive Council will form the FSU election central monitoring coordination committee.

Earlier, the TU had sit for talks with all the presidents of the student unions regarding the determination of the election date. It is said the unions agreed on this date. It had discussed the matter with TU office-bearers, department, deans of all nine faculties and the Controller of Examinations.

The TU has 62 constituent and 1,040 affiliated campuses. The age limit of 28 years and a mixed electoral system have been implemented in the FSU election. With the enforcement of the provisions of age limit and mixed electoral system, the FSU election was organised for the first time in TU campuses partially in 2017.
