Kathmandu, January 12

The Nepal Student Union, which is affiliated to the Nepali Congress, has instructed to its supporters to prepare for the students' union elections slated for March 19.

President of NSU Dujang Sherpa issued a statement, giving instructions to students affiliated to the NSU in colleges to prepare for the student union election. In the statement, Sherpa drew the attention of Tribhuvan University to the need to hold student union election on the stipulated date.

NSU has also formed a committee and a sub-committee to prepare for the Free Students' Union elections. The Union has formed a Manifesto Committee under the leadership of Pujan Gandharva. Likewise, a publicity committee has been formed under the leadership of Santosh Upadhyaya.

Sherpa said since the Free Students' Union elections had not been held for a long time, educational issues, social issues, and politics had been overshadowed.

Talking to THT, Sherpa said, 'TU had set up the Free Students' Union elections many times, but it managed to cancel the elections at the very last moment and blame every student union. Even though the Free Students' Union elections are compulsory, results of every batch from the previous year should be published before the elections. Because of TU's carelessness, many students' careers have been ruined. TU's negligence in the past is the main reason why we are in doubt that it may postpone the election yet again at the last moment.'
