By Himalayan News Service

KATHMANDU: Banks and financial institutions (BFIs) have been directed not to unilaterally provide any type of financial service and charge for it without permission from the customer as per the notice published by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

If any fee is charged for the service provided without the customer's consent, 10 per cent must be added to the amount charged and deposited in the customer's account.

The central bank has requested the public to file a complaint to the authorities concerned by contacting them through the contact information provided at NRB's website if any BFI is found to be conducting such activities.

The customer can also register a complaint at the Financial Customer Protection Unit of the central bank.
