World Day of Social Justice marked

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 20

Amnesty International Nepal celebrated International Social Justice Day here today by organising a programme.

The programme was organised by Amnesty International in coordination with Community Self-Reliance Centre, Constitutional and Judicial Journalist Forum, Human Rights Journalist Association, Jagaran Media Centre, Nepal Mahila Ekata Samaj, Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and Juri Nepal at Alpha House today At the programme, Social Activist Savitri Thapa of Nepal Mahila Ekata Samaj, questioned the Kathmandu Metropolitan City's attempts to evict squatter settlements in Thapathali forcefully on November 28 last year. She showed a video clip of the forceful eviction attempts in Thapathali.

Likewise, Januka Pokhrel representing the landless squatters of Thapathali spoke of the metropolis' injustice in forcefully evicting them from their settlement.
