Mingmar becomes first Samagaun local to scale Manaslu without O2

Mingmar Tsering Lama has become the first local resident of Samagaun village of Gorkha district to stand atop the real summit of Mt Manaslu.

According to Tsum Nubri Rural Municipality, Lama, a permanent resident of the rural municipality – 1 Samagaun has successfully climbed the world's eighth highest peak in autumn 2021 within 7 days without using supplemental oxygen and any training.

'Lama was a part of the expedition organised by Imagine Nepal Manaslu Expedition,' the Department of Tourism confirmed.

Lama said that he reached the summit point at around 9:00 am by guiding a team of international climbers. 'It was a challenging journey to complete without using supplemental oxygen,' Lama who also runs a hotel in Samagaun said, adding that he made it within 7 days on his first attempt.

Without any experience, Lama made it to the real summit. 'I want to inspire our local youths to take on challenges in life,' he said, adding that he aimed to scale Mt Everest in the future.
