Three Star Club defeated Himalayan Sherpa Club 1-0 in the Martyrs Memorial A Division League, while Church Boys United beat Royal Blue Satdobato Youth Club 2-1 here today.
Laken Limbu scored the solitary goal of the match as Three Star registered their fifth victory in the league. Three Star had climbed up to second position but Church Boys United pushed them to third with their fourth win.
Both teams accumulated 18 points from 10 matches and newcomers United - who maintained their unbeaten run in the league - are above on better goal difference. Jawalakhel Youth Club are at the top of the 14- team table with 20 points. With their third defeat, Satdobato dropped to fourth position with 17 points. Sherpa are at the relegation zone with nine points.
At the ANFA Complex grounds, Limbu found the back of the nets in the 14th minute, which was enough for them to walk away with full three points. Limbu received a pass from Aditya Shakya and unleashed a shot and the ball entered the goal with a deflection to Sherpa defender Sanjit Rai, that deceived goalkeeper Kishor Giri. Three Star came close to doubling the tally in the 34th minute but Sherpa goalkeeper Giri brilliantly punched out Aditya Shakya's shot. Sherpa earned a spot kick in the 48th minute after Peter Segun brought down Abayomi Oluwaseun Fakunle inside the area. But Sherpa failed to level the scores as skipper Akash Shrestha shot over the bar.
Sherpa custodian Giri rescued the team with a brilliant dive to deny Segun in the 85th minute.
At the Dasharath Stadium, Milan Rai scored the winning goal as Church Boys United defeated Satdobato Youth Club for their fifth. Rai found the back of the nets from inside the box following a cross from Sushil Shah in the 48th minute to put his team ahead for the second time.
Earlier, Niraj Chaudhary cancelled out Ashish Chaudhary's opener. Ashish put United ahead in the seventh minute on his own rebound after SYC goalkeeper Abhishek Baral blocked the initial shot but he failed to collect the ball. Niraj levelled the scores in the 34th minute with a clean header following a corner from William Opoku Asiedu.
