Bara 2 sees around five percent voter turnout in one hour

Voting has begun at all polling centres in Bara Constituency 2 at 7 am today.

Around five per cent of voters cast their vote in a period of one hour, said chief election officer Mukesh Upadhyay. Arrangements have been made for facilitating pregnant women, disabled people and senior citizens in particular, he said.

Around 2,600 security personnel have been deployed to ensure the by-election takes place in a fair, impartial, peaceful and fearless environment, said Chief District Officer Nabaraj Aapkota.

A total of 138 polling centres for 82 polling stations have been designated. Of them, 65 have been categorised as highly sensitive, and 17 general, according to the district administration office. The constituency has the total 105,248 eligible voters (58,934 men and 46,314 women). A total of 34 candidates are running from the constituency for the House of Representative seat.
