27 killed, 149 hurt in accidents in 6 months

TANAHUN: At least 27 persons have been killed and 149 others injured in road accidents in the first six months of the fiscal year in Tanahun district. Of the dead, 15 were males and 12 females, according to District Traffic Police Office, Tanahun. According to traffic police in-charge Lokbandhu Sharma, 47 men, 31 women and 18 minors had sustained minor injuries. While 31 men, 14 women and 8 minors had sustained life-threatening injuries. The number of road accidents totalled 27. Police said that accidents had taken place from Mugling in the east to Kotre in the west along the Prithvi Highway and some link roads. Compared to the road accidents of first six months of the last fiscal, the number of dead has increased though the number of accidents decreased, police added. Police said that over-speeding, reckless driving and narrow roads had caused accidents. To lessen accidents, awareness campaigns, trainings for drivers and helpers, management of traffic signals and various other programmes have been launched, according to the police.
