KATHMANDU, MAY 16
Kathmandu metropolis Mayor Balendra Shah has sought the federal government's support and coordination on issues of urban management and public concern.
The mayor made this call during the 15th executive meeting of Kathmandu Metropolitan City today.
Recalling that in the period of one year he had sought cooperation from 14 ministries for the operations of local affairs, he said he did not get the expected support and cooperation from the centre.
He also drew the government's (Ministry of Land Reform, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation) attention towards the 'need' to repeal the decision of the Council of Ministers to lease public land protected by the metropolis at Hadigaun without the consent of the local government.
'We requested the home ministry's assistance and cooperation in the management of unsystematic settlement and traffic management. Now idol theft cases are on the rise. We have already sought the surveillance of the federal government to prevent it. There is no pedestrian lane in the areas where the offices of diplomatic missions are located. We had urged the foreign ministry to address the issue,' Mayor Shah said.
