Monsoon-induced natural disaster: Three dead, 29 missing in the eastern Nepal

Various districts in the eastern part of the country have been hit hard by monsoon-induced natural disasters due to incessant rain since the arrival of this year's monsoon.

According to the Police, natural disasters in these areas have incurred a huge loss of lives.

As many as three people have died in Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha and Taplejung district while 29 have gone missing from these districts, said Nepal Police's Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Kuber Kadayat.

Search and rescue operation for the missing ones was underway, said Spokesperson Kadayat, adding that three people were rescued from the disaster in Sankhuwasabha.

In Panchthar district, a person died and five others went missing. Of the 12 bridges in district, some were swept away by flood while some were partially damaged due to landslide and flood.

Similarly, six houses were swept away and a hydro power project suffered partial damage in the natural disaster in the district. Likewise, a person died and 21 others are out of contact in Sankhuwasabha district.

Chief District Officer in Sankhuwasabha, Shiva Kumar Karki, told the RSS that among the missing 21,17 were staffers of the Super Hewakhola Hydro Power Project while remaining four were villagers.

Likewise, landslide in Ilam district has affected people's lives, added DIG Kadayat.
