Kathmandu metropolis receives 1,083 online applications for Grade XI scholarship

As many as 1,083 online applications have been registered with Kathmandu Metropolitan City for Grade XI scholarships.
In the application opened by the KMC from 10:00am on June 28, this figure was recorded as of 3:30pm yesterday.
The highest number of applicants (776) are prospective students from science stream, including 549 males and 227 females followed by 239 students (148 males and 91 females) from the management stream. Similarly, 41 applicants (24 males and 17 females) are from tech-nical subjects, 23 applicants (16 females and 7 males) from law, and two applicants, including a female from education stream.
As per early estimates, scholarships can be provided to about 4,200 students for Grade XI. Head of the Education Department in KMC Sitaram Koirala said, 'We will disclose the final figure regarding the number of students entitled to scholarship according to higher secondary schools operating in Kathmandu next week.'
The online application process for the scholarship exam will continue until July 28 at 11:59pm. The KMC has encouraged the prospective students to submit their applications through its official website www.kathmandu. gov.np. The KMC will conduct a test to provide scholarship on merit basis.
A total of 100 multiple choice objective questions based on curriculum of Grade X will be asked in the exam for selection process, it informed. The schools fall under the jurisdiction of the local government.
The existing Education Act states that institutional schools should provide scholarships to underprivileged, students with disabilities, women, Dalit or students belonging to indigenous nationalities. At least 10 per cent of the total number of students enrolled in the schools concerned will get scholarship.
