Over 100 Bajura villages at high risk of landslide

More than 100 villages are said to be at high risk of landslide in Bajura. As per the data with the District Administration Office, some 116 villages across all nine local levels are at high risk of landslide.

According to the locals, frequent minor earthquakes in the past oneyear has made the situation worse and added to the existing risk. In the past one year, Bajura has witnessed 11 tremors, with the loss of one life. As mentioned in the Disaster Preparation Plan prepared by District Disaster Management Committee, in Tribeni Municipality alone, some 971 households in 13 villages are awaiting relocation.

Similarly, in Budhiganga, some 625 households in 25 villages are said to be under risk. In Gaumul and Khaptad Chhededaha municipalities, 21 and 14 villages require to be shifted to safer grounds respectively.

In these two local levels, over 650 families are awaiting relocation. Likewise, 15 villages in Badimalika Municipality, nine in Swamikartik Rural Municipality and five in Himali Rural Municipality also are at risk of landslide.
