KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 25

CPN-UML Chairperson and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli has demanded that jurisdiction should be given to high-level probe commission to take action against the guilty in the recent gold smuggling scam.

Addressing the first convention of CPN-UML Bagmati Province Committee, Oli urged the government not to make any delay in forming the probe commission and not to limit the commission only to recommend policy-level reforms.

Although an understanding was reached among major political parties to form high-level probe commission to carry out investigation into the recent gold smuggling scam, there was dispute over jurisdiction of the commission. On the occasion, Oli directed the cadres to move ahead with a determination to form a strong national force.

The UML chair wished that the convention would elect a mature leadership that could face the upcoming election in 2026 by breaking the conspiracy being hatched against the party.

Stating that education, science and technology was started from the Nepali land, he shared that his party was committed to eliminate poverty and backwardness from the country.

Oli recalled that he had brought Biplav and CK Raut groups into peaceful activities while leading the government.

He also urged the government to address the grievances of teachers related to the provision of the School Education Bill.

The closed session of the convention, which has around 1,200 representatives, will be held at Kamaladi-based Nepal Academy tomorrow.
