Lifter Bista breaks three national records

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 5

Nepali lifter Bishal Singh Bista recorded three national records including first-ever 300kg mark in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou today.

Competing in the men's 96kg weight category, Bista lifted a record total of 301kg to become the first Nepali lifter to achieve the rare feat.

No Nepali lifter had previously reached the 300kg-mark in any weight category. Bista lifted 133kg in snatch and 169kg in clean and jerk.

In athletics, Nepal's Rajan Rokaya came 14th in men's marathon participated in by a total of 18 athletes.

Rokaya finished the 42.195km distance in two hours, 23 minutes and 17 seconds. In the women's section, Pushpa Bhandari finished 16th in the 17-athlete field. She completed the race in three hours, two minutes and 37 seconds.

In Karate, three Nepali players faced defeats on the first day. Mahammed Shekhu Alam suffered a 5-0 defeat against Kazakhstan's Nurkanat Azhikanov in the men's 75kg weight category. Also, Sonim Manandhar and Alisa Raskoti Magar crashed out from singles kata. Manandhar earned 38.30 points in the six-man pool and finished fifth. Magar came sixth in the first round with 37.30 points.

In wrestling,Siwangi Dube faced a 8-0 defeat at the hands of Sriprapa Tho Kaew of Thailand in the quarter-final match of the women's Freestyle 57kg weight category.

In canoe slalom, Nepal's Ganesh Gurung advanced to the semi-finals men's Kayak category. Gurung finished seventh in the Heat 2 with the timing of 230.47 seconds and earned a berth in the semi-final stage, where he joined 15 other athletes.

A total of 10 players will advance to the finals.
