New EU envoy to visit Madhes Province

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 9

European Union's newly appointed Ambassador to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo is leaving for Madhes Province tomorrow as part of her first visit outside Kathmandu valley. Talking to THT, Ambassador Lorenzo said, 'Madhes is closer to the valley and it is one of the provinces on our priority list.'

'Madhes, Karnali and Sudurpaschim are on the list of EU's priority. And as Madhes is nearer to Kathmandu, it will be convenient for me to visit and have a look at the ongoing progress and situation,' she said. Talking to media today at the EU office in Nepal, Ambassador Lorenzo expressed her commitment to assisting Nepal in achieving prosperity, ensuring continuity of its assistance to Nepal in the areas of quality education, climate change, sustainable development, promotion of the energy sector, improvement of human rights and building an equitable society.

Recalling the decision of the EU to provide Nepal with 300 billion euros, Ambassador Lorenzo expressed hope for wider cooperation and collaboration from all sides to achieve the targets of the programme.
