Hetauda, May 8:
At least 23 Nepali girls were rescued from Kohinoor Circus in India’s Karnataka state. Among the girls, 12 are from Makwanpur, five from Bara and six from Chitwan. The girls were brought to Hetauda last evening.
“Acting on complaints filed by the guardians of victims, the girls have been rescued,” said Indra Dahal, coordinator of Nepal Children’s Welfare Organisation (CWO), Makwanpur. According to victims, Dhan Bahadur Gurung of Hetauda, Thoolididi of Basa-madi and Laxmi of Manhari had taken them to the circus eight years ago.
The guardians went to India where they were able to free the girls with the assistance of the Nepali Embassy, Non-resident Nepali Friendship Forum and deputy-commissioner of police of Kaward, said Dahal, the CWO coordinator.
