Food worth Rs 90 million ruined in Jajarkot earthquake

Food worth amounting to Rs 90 million was ruined in the Jajarkot earthquake that caused a huge loss of lives and properties.
Food worth over Rs 92.6 million that were stored in 34,501 households was buried in the earthquake, the Agriculture Development Office, Jajaarkot shared.
The 6.4-magnitude earthquake that occurred on last November 3 with its epicenter at Ramidanda had completely destroyed 9,794 houses.
According to the office, food grains such as paddy, corn, wheat and millet stored in 34,501 houses were destroyed in the tremor.
Information Officer of the Office, Topendra Biswokarma shared that the earthquake had buried over 2.82 million kilograms of paddy with corn, wheat and millet. Also, the earthquake had caused loss of livestock worth amounting to Rs 54.14 million in the district.
In Jajarkot alone, as many as 90,567 people were directly affected due to earthquake.
The overall situation may flare up the issue of food crisis in the earthquake-ravaged area. As temporary structures are being built in the fertile land, it may trigger loss in food production.
The Barekot rural municipality area of the district has ever seen food crisis. In view of the imminent food crisis, the district administration office has urged the locals to manage and store food.
