Scope of health insurance to be expanded, says PM Dahal

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 26

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has announced the expansion of the health insurance scope.

In his address to the nation marking the completion of one year of his government today, Prime Minister Dahal mentioned that the insurance scheme has not progressed according to the spirit of the National Health Insurance Act introduced during his previous tenure in 2074.

However, the current government is committed to improving it to realize the constitutional right of citizens to health, giving it high priority. For this purpose, the Prime Minister stated that the government is implementing policy and procedural reforms for effective insurance implementation, capacity building of the insurance board, establishing a strong monitoring and evaluation mechanism, increasing the scope of insurance coverage, and making comprehensive improvements in the structure and quality of services.

The Prime Minister also expressed a commitment to raise the current ceiling in insurance coverage, integrating all free health programs into health insurance.

He emphasized that with a focus on health insurance, the health system will be developed according to integrated health infrastructure development standards.
