Hydropower sector sole gainer as NEPSE drops 26 points

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 7

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) experienced a decline of 26.36 points or 1.28% on Sunday, concluding the first trading day of the week at 2,022.92 points.

The benchmark index decline was mirrored by a 1.62% drop in the sensitive index, which assesses the performance of class 'A' stocks. Similarly, the float index, which reflects the performance of actively traded shares, also experienced a 1.24% dip.

The daily turnover displayed a decline, settling at just Rs 5.241 billion on Sunday, stemming from the transaction of 15,268,399 units of shares across 304 companies in 98,632 transactions. This marked a decrease from the Rs 5.581 billion turnover observed on Thursday.

The market exhibited turbulence today, with only the hydropower index making a positive move, recording a 1.03% gain. Conversely, the life insurance index led the losers with a notable 2.40% loss.

Among the 159 companies, the majority witnessed a decline, as only 81 advanced, and six remained unchanged in terms of their share values. Terhathum Power Company Limited (TPC) stood out with a 10% positive circuit break.

SONA maintained its dominance in the market, leading in turnover, volume, and transactions. The company's shares, totaling 557,159 units, were traded for Rs 280,056,404.10 across 6,194 transactions.

The total market capitalizations on Sunday was Rs 3.143 trillion.
