KATHMANDU, JANUARY 10

The Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly has recently elected chairpersons for its thematic committees, nearly a year into the second term of the Provincial Assembly.

The election of the four thematic committee chairs occurred unopposed.

Diwansingh Bista from the Nepali Congress was elected as the Chair of the Legislative and Provincial Affairs Committee, Maya Pant of CPN (US) as the Chair of the Social Development Committee, Bir Bahadur Thapa from CPN (UML) as the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, and Ghanashyam Chaudhary from Nagarik Unmukti Party as the Chair of the Economic Development and Natural Resources Committee, as announced by the Provincial Assembly Secretariat.

Provincial Assembly Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected committee chairs earlier today.

Furthermore, a consensus has been reached among the parties to grant the Chairmanship of the Special Rights Committee to CPN (MC).
