KATHMANDU, MARCH 5
Nepali Congress (NC) has withdrawn its support for the government led by CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
The party has also resolved to effectively assume the role of the opposition in Parliament.
General Secretary Biswo Prakash Sharma informed that the decision was made during a meeting of the NC Central Work Execution Committee held today at the Budhanilakantha-based residence of party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Expressing commitment to the promises made jointly during the general election held on November 20, 2022, and acknowledging the voters' mandate, NC stated that it withdrew its support due to disagreements after Prime Minister Dahal decided to collaborate with other political parties in an untrustworthy manner, disregarding the mandate.
General Secretary Sharma further emphasized that the meeting concluded that the coalition was intentionally broken at a time when there was a pressing need to accelerate economic reforms, safeguard the Constitution, consolidate the federal democratic republic system, and reignite hope among the populace.
NC also concluded that Prime Minister Dahal's actions have fostered uncertainty and instability in the country.
Taking the matter seriously, NC has decided to assume an effective opposition role in Parliament.
Additionally, NC has appealed to its members, well-wishers, and supporters at home and abroad to remain united, demonstrating commitment to the party's organization in these changed circumstances, and fulfill their responsibilities to the country and Nepali citizens.
