KATHMANDU, MAY 1

High winds have destroyed Camp II along with most of the tents on Mt Everest, eyewitnesses have said.

'Strong winds blew the tents off the mountain but no one was hurt,' Mingma Sherpa, Chairman at Seven Summit Treks, told THT.

Most tents have blown away with wind gusting at 70-90 kph since last evening while a few were being covered with rocks, Sherpa said, adding that the expedition members now need to go back up and rebuild camp.

'The winds at C2 and above have been very strong. They were battering the tents,' base camp officials confirmed.

Weather reports show that the winds are expected to recede from this evening.
