KATHMANDU, MAY 8

Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party, Ramesh Lekhak, has said the government is egregiously ignoring significant issues raised by the major opposition party in parliament.

Speaking to journalists at the office of the party's parliamentary party in Singh Durbar on Wednesday, Chief Whip Lekhak informed that the NC is firm on demanding an investigation into the misappropriation of money in cooperatives.

He insisted on taking actions against the fraudsters because money deposited by thousands of common people in cooperatives was found to be embezzled.

He further underlined the need for cleanup in the cooperative sector, which is one of the important pillars of the national economy. On another note, he clarified that his party was not interested in causing the incumbent government to fail or in forming a new one in collaboration with CPN UML.

The Chief Whip, however, advocated for forging a minimum consensus with major political parties to address people's needs and aspirations.

According to him, it is essential to ensure the effectiveness of parliament and to assure people that it is the platform for their voices. Lekhak opined that parliament should be given business; otherwise, it would become a weak institution.
