NEPSE surges by 1.23% on Monday; banking sector gains 3.21%

KATHMANDU, MAY 13
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) witnessed a increase of 24.36 points or 1.23% on Monday, to close at 1,998.89 points by the end of the trading session.
Accompanying this rise in the benchmark index, the sensitive index, which assesses the performance of class 'A' stocks, also experienced a notable increase of 1.66%. Similarly, the float index, which measures actively traded shares, saw a rise of 1.34%.
In this predominantly positive market scenario, the banking sector emerged as the top performer, boasting a gain of 3.21%, closely followed by the investment sector with a rise of 2.04%.
However, amidst the overall positivity, five sectors-finance, hotels and tourism, manufacturing and processing, non-life insurance, and trading sectors-recorded losses during the trading session.
Among individual stocks, Narayani Development Bank (NABBC), Samaj Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (SAMAJ), and Mandu Hydropower Limited (MANDU) stood out, each witnessing a remarkable 10% surge in their share values.
Today 148 companies advanced while 85 companies declined and 11 remained unchanged.
The day's trading activities resulted in a daily turnover of Rs 3.4 billion, facilitated by the exchange of 9,541,017 units of shares belonging to 320 companies, conducted through 45,828 transactions.
Meanwhile, the total market capitalization reached Rs 3.169 trillion.
