Madhyapur Thimi, May 9:
The Scientific House Numbering System project launched in the Madhyapur Thimi municipality has neared completion but the people here have expressed dissatisfaction over the number plates placed on their houses.
Only about 15 days are left for the project to complete but the residents of the core area of the municipality have already thrown out the number plates nailed on their homes claiming that that the information provided by the plates were either incomplete or wrong.
The municipality has hired Vawana Consultant Pvt Ltd (V-CON) for putting up the plates on every houses in the municipality. The V-CON had conducted a survey three years ago to introduce the new addressing system in the municipality.
An engineer at the municipality said several locals have filed complaints at the municipality claiming the information provided in the number plates are either incomplete or wrong. “Most of the complaints we receive are from people from the core area of the municipality,” he said.
Ratna man Chanhyou, former chairman of ward number two of the municipality, said the misrepresenting plates have received wide criticism because the consultants did not conduct proper study before implementing the project.
Some number plates contain names of the tenants in place of the land lords and the names of the streets are also mistaken.
Managing director of the V-CON Dayaram Manandhar said they would make the corrections wherever necessary according to the decision made by the municipality after the project completes within the next two weeks.
However, the executive officer of the municipality Bhuwan Bista said this was not a big issue and that it would be corrected later.
