MTPD impounds 27 vehicles, three arrested

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has impounded 27 vehicles for investigation.“This month, the MTPD received information that some stolen vehicles, some vehicles with fake registration numbers and some vehicles with fake engine and chassis numbers have been plying the roads. The MTPD launched an operation and impounded 27 vehicles,” MTPD Sub-Inspector Roshan Acharya said today. A Chevrolet (Ba.4.Cha 5624), a Mitsubishi (Ba.3.Cha 1919), a Tata Indica (Ba.6.Cha 5168), two Maruti cars (Sa.1.Cha 438), (Ba.3.Cha 6951), nine Santro cars (Ba.5.Cha 4851), (Na.2.Cha 1361), (Na.2.Cha 1461), (Ba.6.Cha 1184), (Ga.1.Cha 3458), (Na.2.Cha 1565), (Ba.5.Cha 9014), (Ba.5.Cha), (Na.2.Cha 227), (Ba 5 Cha, 4688), a Gaze (Ba.5.Cha 8045), six Scorpio cars (VE.1.Cha 827), (Na.2.Cha 1422), (Na.2.Cha 1498), (Ba.6.Cha 9431), (Ba.5.Cha 6864), a Tata Sumo (Na.1.Cha 7468), four Bolero cars (Ko.1.Cha 9735), (Ba.5.Cha 9625), (Na.2.Cha 58), (Ba.4.Cha 6984), and an Alto (Ba.5.Cha 2967) have been impounded, records at the MTPD showed. “Among these, most of them are new vehicles. We impounded them from the Nagdhunga checkpoint, from various garages in Kathmandu and some from parking lots,” Acharya said. “We have arrested three persons from different garages in this connection and have handed them over to the customs department,” he added. According to him, the arrested persons told the police that people visit the garages to sell the vehicles. “We bargain on the price. If we can afford, we buy them. We don’t look at the documents; all we look at is the condition and the quality of the vehicles,” Acharya quoted one of the arrested persons as saying.
