15 killed in Saurya Airlines plane crash

KATHMANDU, JULY 24

As many as 15 people have been declared dead in the Saurya Airlines plane crash at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) this morning. The Saurya Airlines plane, 9N-AME (CRJ 200), crashed while taking off for Pokhara from Kathmandu at around 11:00 AM.

According to Nepal Police, four individuals have been rescued from the wreckage. The pilot, 37-year-old Manish Shakya is undergoing treatment at KMC Hospital, Sinamangal.

Meanwhile, three others are undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj.

All 19 individuals on board were airline staff, including both technical staff and flight crew, with no passengers on board. The plane was being taken to Pokhara for maintenance at the maintenance hangar at Pokhara Regional Airport.

The bodies of the deceased are being taken to the Teaching Hospital for postmortem, police added.
