KATHMANDU, AUGUST 20

Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has stated that the recent understanding between the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (UML) is not aimed against any other political party but is intended to advance democratic practices.

Speaking on Tuesday at a program organized by the School of Democracy on the second memorial day of socialist thinker Pradeep Giri, Deuba emphasized that the two major political parties have come together to ensure the success of the socialism-oriented constitution, which was drafted on the foundation of pluralism.

'The consensus between the two parties was reached to move the nation forward. It would be incorrect for certain political parties to interpret this agreement as being against them. The agreement between these two major parties is not secret; we have made it public,' Deuba stated.

The former Prime Minister also stressed the need to amend the constitution to address issues that have arisen during its implementation.

Speaking at the event, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal recalled Pradeep Giri's contributions in persuading top leaders from various parties to embrace a democratic republic by rejecting the then king's address during the People's Movement-II.

Similarly, CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel remarked that future generations will remember Pradeep Giri as a prominent socialist thinker in Nepal.

CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Shakti Bahadur Basnet added that Pradeep Giri remained widely respected across all political parties due to his reputation as a political thinker.

Leaders from other parties, including Dr. Surendra Jha of the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, NC central leader Min Bahadur Bishwakarma, Giri's spouse Bharati Silwal Giri, and NC leader Nainsingh Mahar, also spoke at the event, recalling Giri's contributions to Nepal's political and socialist movements.

Born in Siraha in 2004 BS, Giri passed away on 4th Bhadra, 2079 BS.
