Heavy rainfall expected in some areas

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 21

The influence of monsoon winds continues across the country.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the low-pressure monsoon line is currently situated slightly north of its usual southern position.

Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, is occurring in a few locations in Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as in isolated areas of the other provinces today.

The Department reports that the weather will be partly to generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected in several areas of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, with similar conditions in isolated locations in the remaining provinces.

Additionally, heavy rainfall is likely in one or two areas of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy nationwide. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in a few locations in Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, Gandaki, Sudurpashchim, and Karnali provinces, with possible occurrences in isolated areas of other provinces.

The Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions due to the risk of disasters such as floods, landslides, and soil erosion in areas prone to heavy rainfall.
