KATHMANDU, AUGUST 22

The government has decided to lift the ban on the social networking site TikTok, allowing its use under specific conditions.

The decision was made during a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday, as announced by the Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology prepared the proposal in response to a directive from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who instructed that all social networking sites should be treated equally and that appropriate regulations should be established.

The government had initially imposed a ban on TikTok in November 2023, citing concerns that its use was contributing to social ills.
