KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 8

The Government of India has handed over a consignment of emergency relief materials to support families affected by recent floods and landslides in Nepal.

Narayan Singh, Second Secretary at the Indian Embassy, handed over the aid to Banke's Chief District Officer, Khagendra Prasad Rijal, in a ceremony held in Nepalgunj.

The relief package, weighing 4.2 tonnes, includes tarpaulins, sleeping bags, blankets, chlorine tablets, and water bottles. Additional essential hygiene items, medicines, and other relief supplies are being arranged by the Indian government and will be delivered soon, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu said.

'India continues to be a First Responder in crisis situations in its neighbourhood and beyond. Following the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, the Government of India was the first responder and carried out its largest disaster relief operation abroad - Operation Maitri. India had also assisted with relief materials in the aftermath of Jajarkot earthquake in November 2023.'

The Indian government remains committed to supporting Nepal in the wake of the recent flood and landslide devastation, continuing its long-standing cooperation in times of crisis, it added.
