The social media platform TikTok was officially registered with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on Tuesday.

The popular application was registered under Section 3(1) of the Guidelines for the Regulation of Social Media Use - 2080 BS, which mandates that individuals, companies, or organizations wishing to operate social media platforms in Nepal must register with the Ministry in compliance with these guidelines.

A Cabinet decision on October 24 approved TikTok's listing, although registration was delayed due to the Dashain and Tihar festivals, according to Mamata Bastola, the Ministry's information officer and under-secretary.

The Ministry has also issued a directive urging all social networking sites active in Nepal to register in accordance with the guidelines. Alongside TikTok, Viber and WeTalk have completed registration with the Ministry.

'Other social networks are currently undergoing the registration process,' added Under-Secretary Bastola.
