173,000 tourists visit Mustang in just two months

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 20

Mustang has witnessed an influx of 173,000 tourists over a span of two months, according to the District Police Office. From September 17 to November 15, a total of 144,155 domestic visitors and 28,976 international travelers explored the region.

Police Inspector and Public Information Officer Bishal Adhikari reported that 59,831 tourists entered Mustang during the month of Asoj (September 17 to October 16), while the following month of Kartik saw an impressive 113,300 arrivals, both by air and land. The police maintain records of individuals entering through the Ghasa road and Jomsom airport.

Hotel operators estimate that tourists spend a minimum of Rs 15,000 on average during their stay in Mustang. Mohan Singh Lalchan, Chairperson of Gharpajhong Rural Municipality, highlighted that tourist activities generated a staggering Rs 2.59 billion in transactions within this two-month period.

Prem Prasad Poudel, Chief of the Tourism and Industry Office in Mustang, noted that the region is home to 325 hotels, offering accommodations for approximately 7,000 tourists daily. During the festive seasons of Dashain and Tihar, nearly all hotels in Mustang reported full occupancy.

Mustang welcomed a total of 427,000 tourists in the fiscal year 2080/81 and 379,767 visitors in 2079/80 BS.
