Valley crime graph goes down: NP

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Police (NP) today claimed that after the implementation of the Special Security Plan (SSP), crime in the Kathmandu Valley has subsided. Metropolitan Commissioner's Office (MCO), Kathmandu said, 'The police personnel are working with high morale and agility after the implementation of the plan.' Various metropolitan police sectors and circles are at work as per the plan, the office added. Nearly 30,50,000 people live in the Valley and an another 50,000 enter and leave the Valley for various purposes, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Ganga Pandey. According to a data, crime cases in Kathmandu totalled 2,767 last year but after the implementation of the plan, they came down dramatically. There were barely 700 cases in Kathmandu for the last 4 months compared with more than 900 cases in the first two months of the preceding year. Superintendent of Police (SP) Ganesh KC, Metropolitan Police Division, hails the Special Security Plan as curbing the surge in crime rate. SP KC added that overall the crime graph had gone down by 60 per cent. 'Minor incidences of thefts, property-related crime, extortion, murders, looting of passengers in the public transport have decreased,' he said, adding, 'Kathmandu has many vulnerable spots where crime takes place but the security plan has deterred such activities to a great extent, he added.
