DPM Singh bats for healthy lifestyles over costly treatments

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 25
Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakash Man Singh emphasized the importance of prevention over cure while advocating for a healthy lifestyle.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the second phase of the Nepal-Korea Friendship Municipal Hospital today, Minister Singh highlighted the need for proactive health measures.
The hospital, operated by Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, is being expanded with financial support from the South Korean government.
Member of the House of Representatives, Durlabh Thapa, underscored the potential of the hospital to serve not only Bhaktapur residents but also patients from across the country. He emphasized its development as a model healthcare institution.
South Korean Ambassador to Nepal, Taeyong Park, reiterated Korea's longstanding commitment to Nepal's health sector. He noted that the Korean government has provided continuous support since the hospital's establishment, contributing $9.5 million for the new building and funding expert medical personnel for the facility.
Surendra Shrestha, Mayor of Madhyapur Thimi and chair of the program, stated that the modern, well-equipped building funded by the Korean government will significantly enhance treatment capabilities. Deputy Mayor Bijaya Krishna Shrestha lauded Korea's support as a testament to the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Dr. D.K. Raushan, Executive Director of the hospital, detailed the current services offered and the planned expansions facilitated by the new building, which is expected to be completed within two years.
He also expressed confidence that the upgraded infrastructure will bolster healthcare services.
