The Ministry of Health and Population has announced the launch of a one-month nationwide uterine cancer screening and testing campaign targeting 250,000 women.

The Family Health Welfare Division under the Ministry will commence screenings for women aged 30 to 49 from February 13, 2025.

Dr. Bibek Kumar Lal, Chief of the Division, stated that the campaign will be conducted simultaneously across the country, with a target to screen 250,000 women this year.

According to a WHO report, uterine cancer accounted for over 7,700 of the 14,000 cancer-related deaths in Nepal in 2022.

Additionally, 2,169 new cases of uterine cancer and 2,255 new cases of breast cancer were reported that year. Currently, uterine cancer claims the lives of four women daily in Nepal.

Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel had prioritized nationwide cancer screenings in his plans to curb uterine and breast cancer among women.

As part of the initiative, the Ministry will also administer free vaccines to adolescent girls in a two-week campaign starting February 4, 2025, aimed at combating uterine cancer.
