KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 30
Vehicular movement along the Satmod section of the Karnali Highway in Mugu district has resumed after being disrupted for two days due to heavy snowfall.
Three passenger buses traveling from the district headquarters, Gamgadi, to Nepalgunj were stranded after the road became impassable.
The Road Division Office deployed an excavator to clear the accumulated snow and ice earlier today, enabling traffic to resume, according to Santosh Shahi of Rara Chayanath Transport Pvt. Limited.
This road section serves as a gateway to Dhuchhilake and the buffer zone of Rara National Park. Passengers endured a harrowing night in freezing conditions, as thick snow and ice prevented the vehicles from moving forward.
'We spent the night in the buses without food, in the bitter cold, with no assistance in sight,' said Rajyalaxmi Bom, one of the passengers, speaking to Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) over the phone.
Bom noted that children, the elderly, and ill passengers suffered the most during the ordeal.
