KATHMANDU, JANUARY 6
The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order requesting additional documents concerning Prateek Thapa, an accused in the fake Bhutanese refugee case.
A single bench of SC Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla issued the order on Monday, seeking further reports on the case involving Prateek Thapa, son of former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, in connection with the scam.
Prateek had filed a petition at the SC challenging the decisions of the Patan High Court and Kathmandu District Court, which ordered his detention for investigation into the scam.
SC Spokesperson Achyut Kuinkel stated that the court issued the order for additional documents following a hearing on the petition.
Earlier, Prateek was arrested on June 29, 2024, for his alleged involvement in the scam.
He initially appealed the Kathmandu District Court's detention order at the Patan High Court, which upheld the decision. Subsequently, he approached the SC, seeking release on bail.
