KATHMANDU: At least six lawyers were injured in a police action when they were padlocking the Company Registrar’s Office today protesting the increment of fine levied on company renewal. Advocates Prem Bhatta, Devi Bhattarai, Nirbhaya Paudel, Dhruba Ghimire, BP Dhakal and Nisha Baniya were injured in the melee. The lawyers had padlocked the Company Registrar’s Office opposing its decision to impose ‘unreasonable’ fine for the renewal of company after the expiry of the tenure of their certificates. However, the lawyers alleged that the Office used police force to suppress their peaceful protest against its decision which they claimed was against the interest of the entire corporate sector. After the dialogue with the Office, Nepal Bar Association’s newly elected leaders called the Office to rectify its mistake immediately. “Their action is objectionable as they have attacked the lawyers and also made defamatory allegation of cheating people,” NBA President elect Prem Bahadur Khadka, said. General Secretary elect Bijaya Mishra alleged that the Office did not take initiatives to rectify its mistake. In a press release, Corporate Lawyers Association has strongly condemned the attack on the lawyers.
