Chhopel Sherpa wins Gyalpo Lhosar Snooker tournament

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 21

Chhopel Sherpa won the first Gyalpo Lhosar Snooker tournament which was organised for a week in Kathmandu.

Pasang Sherpa, Chairman at the Base Camp Snooker, said in a statement that Chhopel Sherpa won the first Gyalpo Lhosar Snooker tournament as the competition took place at the Base Camp Snooker in Sagarmatha Chowk, Aakashedhara, Kapan today.

Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka presented the certificates and cash prizes to the winners.

The champion of the tournament got first prize carrying a cash of Rs 1,10,000 along with trophy and certificate,' Pasang said, adding that first runner-up Lhakpa Chhiring Sherpa got Rs 55,000, trophy and certificate.

The second runner-up of the tournament Nima Nurbu Sherpa and Furi Sherpa jointly received Rs 30,000 along with trophy and certificate while Rs 20,000 was awarded to Pemba Sherpa for the highest break (60+), according to him.

Only Sherpa participants took part in the tournament. A total of 64 participants competed in the tournament.

'To celebrate the Gyalpo Lhosar and to promote traditional Sherpa culture, we organised the tournament,' Pasang said, adding that it would help unite the Sherpa community and promote sports culture.
