KATHMANDU, MAY 21

Dr Biswo Nath Poudel officially assumed office as the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) today.

Speaking after taking charge at the central office in Baluwatar, Dr Poudel emphasized the need to strengthen oversight of banks and financial institutions. 'Beyond formulating rules, we must enhance supervision and focus on improving loan quality,' he said.

He also pledged to align monetary policy with the government's fiscal strategy and ensure regular consultation with stakeholders in shaping NRB's decisions.

The new Governor affirmed his commitment to upholding the autonomy of the central bank as enshrined in the NRB Act.

Earlier in the day, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut administered the oath of office and secrecy to Dr Poudel. He also paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel.
