NEPSE inches up as turnover surges to Rs 13 billion; Hotels and Tourism sector lead gainers

KATHMANDU, JUNE 16

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gained a modest 2.80 points, or 0.10%, closing at 2,658.66 points at Monday's trading session.

Meanwhile, the Sensitive Index, tracking class 'A' companies, slipped 0.05%, and the Float Index, representing actively traded shares, rose slightly by 0.08%.

Despite the modest price movements, daily turnover surged to Rs 13.18 billion, with 33.64 million shares of 318 companies exchanged through 105,635 transactions. This marks a significant increase from Sunday's turnover of Rs 11.44 billion.

The market showed mixed performance across sectors. Five sectors ended in the red, led by the Finance sector, which recorded the largest loss of 1.22%, followed by the Hydropower sector's 1.00% decline.

In contrast, the Hotels and Tourism sector stood out with a strong gain of 4.69%, the highest among all sectors, as no other sector posted gains above 1%.

Pure Energy Limited (PURE) was the sole stock to hit the upper circuit, shining in an otherwise mixed session.

Among the traded stocks, 124 advanced and an equal number, 124, declined.

At market close, the total market capitalization stood at Rs 4.429 trillion.
