KATHMANDU, JUNE 19

The International Relations and Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD) and the Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to collaborate in promoting Nepal's traditional handicrafts globally.

The agreement was signed by IRGDD President Amb. Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal and FHAN President Rabindra Shakya during a special ceremony held in Kathmandu.

The MoU aims to establish a framework for joint action to empower artisans, support research and policy dialogue, and enhance the visibility and competitiveness of Nepali handicrafts in global markets. Both parties stressed the importance of leveraging diplomacy, innovation, and collaboration to support Nepal's artisan community and strengthen the country's soft power.

'This agreement has paved the way for us to work together. IRGDD is always ready to collaborate with organizations like FHAN to promote Nepali products and Nepal itself,' said Dr. Dhakal, adding that the partnership will boost Nepal's global diplomatic presence through soft diplomacy.

FHAN President Shakya echoed the sentiment, stating, 'This MoU will not only benefit the handicraft sector but also the country. We are targeting markets in developing countries and working with women and youth, in line with government priorities.'

The collaboration will focus on five key areas: promotion of Nepali products, education and research, quality improvement and product development, business linkages and market access, and policy and advocacy support.

FHAN will take the lead in ensuring quality and authenticity of products, while IRGDD will focus on global outreach and strategic diplomacy to enhance international visibility.
