319 kg hashish seized from truck in Birgunj; One arrested

KATHMANDU, JUNE 27

Police in Parsa have arrested a man with 319 kilograms of hashish that was being smuggled in a truck from Kathmandu to Birgunj.

The arrestee has been identified as 36-year-old Buddhi Bahadur Syangtan, a resident of Thaha Municipality-12 in Makawanpur district.

Acting on a special tip-off, a joint team from the Simara-based police unit and the District Police Office, Parsa, began tracking a suspicious truck (Province 2-03-003 Kha 6368) reportedly transporting illegal drugs. The truck was found parked at Parwanipur Chowk Inn, Birgunj Metropolitan City-14, around 7:30 PM on Wednesday.

During a detailed search, police discovered 13 tightly packed bundles of hashish, concealed inside white plastic sacks in the rear cargo section. The total weight of the confiscated drugs was 319 kilograms.

Police also seized Rs 121,000 in cash from the driver's clothing and a mobile phone.

Following the arrest, Syangtan was presented before the Parsa District Court, which granted a five-day judicial custody for further investigation.

Police said legal proceedings are underway under narcotics control laws.
