Chinese national held with smuggled electronic goods worth nearly Rs 20 million in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, JULY 18

A Chinese national has been arrested in Kathmandu with a large quantity of smuggled electronic goods worth nearly Rs 19.97 million.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office raided a warehouse in Purano Sinamangal, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32, and arrested YU WANG, 38, a resident of Shandong, China, currently residing in the area.

He was found assembling and storing various electronic items-such as laptop batteries, CC cameras, and electronic parts-without customs clearance or valid bills/invoices. The operation was carried out around 4:30 pm on July 15

According to police, goods worth Rs 19.97 million were seized during the raid including 33,105 semi-assembled laptop batteries, 2,217 fully assembled batteries, 1,479 CCTV cameras and accessories, and various other battery parts and repair tools.

Police have handed over the accused and the confiscated items to the Revenue Investigation Office, Harihar Bhawan, Lalitpur, for further investigation and legal action.
